Newsletter December 2014

Special guests
Annigna Hofmann und Giorgio Dashi came to visit us for one week. Annigna has already done an internship at our home in 2012, that’s why she fell right back into our daily routine and was a great help. Both of them enjoyed the time with the children to a full extend and
kept them busy with fun new games. The farewell party took place at our beloved pizza place where we were all invited. It is always a highlight, small and big couldn’t hide their excitement.

Celebrations & gifts
Already before Christmas did we have many visitors from companies, churches and school classes. All of them spoiled our children with activities specially organized for us, games and presents. Each visitor was filled with joy when they had the possibility to share things with our children and saw their sparkly eyes and honest smiles. It is truly a priceless experience. For our older girls did two friends from “yo quiero ser” organize a gala evening. The girls made their hair, painted the nails and were allowed to pull out their favorite evening gowns. Our beauties were hard to recognize when they left for the event. They enjoyed it very much to have once the chance to participate at such a special happening.

Christmas
After Swiss traditions did we install a bakery to make x-mas cookies, the only difference it all took place under the heat oft he Honduran sun. The baking committee chose for recipes which contain affordable ingredients which were all available. They did a wonderful
job and made them feel quit Helvetic while enjoying the bites full of deliciousness. To unite both traditions, we also made Tamales which is a must for the festive season in Honduras. December 24 did the elder children help our cooks to make a wide variety of Tamales before the girls were allowed to devote them selves to their favorite activity: Beauty farm „yo quiero ser“. The hair has been straightened, nails polished and make-up tricks were put to test. In Honduras is it common that everybody wears new clothes and
shoes for Christmas eve. Thanks to generous donations were also our children enabled to so.
Before we made it to church, we had to see the doctor because Brayan injured his finger. He needed a few stiches and received a truly old fashioned finger splint containing two wooden sticks. He wasn’t bothered at all, he mentioned happily that he finally has a
pistol which he can carry everywhere he wants. Luckily enough does children fantasy overshadows pain and sorrow… After the mass did we approach our way home to enjoy a lovely Christmas dinner which has been served on our soccer field. Our cooks made some mouthwatering dishes containing chicken, Chinese rice, salad, ice-cream, appels and grapes. Thereafter did we come together in our main hall to listen to a thoughtful Christmas story and to hand over a present for each child. The children were happy and in party mood, which lead over to a joyful night of dancing and singing.

Television broadcast Cuntrasts
A talk with Patricia Scarpatetti in the television show Cuntrasts has been aired on december 28 2014 at 17.20 Uhr at SF1. Seven years ago did Patricia Scarpatetti immigrate to San Pedro Sula in Honduras where she set up a children’s home for street children. All this was only realizable thanks to a variety of Swiss donators. Momentarily do 42 children live there and 12 local employees have jobs in a good environment. She manages herself the children’s home in Honduras, holds the position as chairman of the foundation and is holds the responsibility for the finances of the whole project. The foundation children’s home „yo quiero ser...“ takes not only financial donation, they are also happy about any materialistic
donations alike school material, toys and clothing’s. Those donations are shipped to Honduras thanks to a generous transportation company based in Switzerland. During the talk with Rico Valär did Patricia explain how she set up the project, how it is to live in the most dangerous city worldwide and why she wants to adopt the little street boy Juan Carlos. Short video sequences gave some insights of the daily life Patricia and her children live. It was wonderful to see how determined, nonetheless graceful and with full of love, Patricia handles those endless challenges. She is completely aware of the tough reality she
exposes herself to, nonetheless does she never try to trivialize the success neither the failures she had to experience. Towards the end oft he talk did she even tell about the exciting projects she has in store for the children’s home „yo quiero ser...“

New Years Eve
New Years Eve is not the same without Tamales, that’s why they were served as an aperitif before they went to the end of the year mass. After reviewing an eventful year, the priest did make some promising outlooks onto a new year. It encouraged the children to
continue on with their positive approach towards life. Back home did we enjoy a tasty dinner. After dinner did we talk all together about the year which comes to an end and everybody noted some bad habits on a paper. Those papers were stuffed into the “2014 – puppet”. Right after midnight did we light up the puppet and the bad habits disappeared in the flames oft he burning character. This tradition allows the children to get rid of their bad habits and to start “pure” into the new year. At midnight were fireworks displayed, everybody received bountiful good wishes and we danced all together. Each child defined their own wishes and dreams and if they wanted to, they shared it with their nearest ones, the others kept it for themselves. It was a great ambience and everybody started into 2015 with full of joy, happiness and hopefulness!
