At the end of January, the new school building El Alpinista was officially inaugurated as part of the 100-Houses Project Unión y Esperanza. This significant project was planned and implemented by the Fundación Yo Quiero Ser and fully funded by the Stiftung Kinderheim Yo Quiero Ser from Switzerland.
The children’s home looks back on an eventful quarter: it experienced a vibrant community. Volunteers from Switzerland enriched the children’s daily lives, graduates celebrated impressive successes, and cultural excursions created lasting impressions. In Santa Rosa de Copán, the Yo Quiero Ser Foundation provided professional opportunities with free courses, while Unión y Esperanza offered families new homes and hope.
The ROOM organisation held a three-day ‘hope camp’ for older teenagers to explore their goals for the year and their lives. The new school year began in February with great anticipation, as education is a privilege in Honduras. Two young students of our home received a drama scholarship. During Easter week, the children spent a lot of time in the water and enjoyed many other activities. Gerard van Kesteren visited the children's home and took part in the inauguration of the 100 houses project. Eight high school graduates successfully took part in the La Prensa Marathon.
