This is Annett's report about her time as a volunteer at our children's home. Read how she perceived her stay with us, from the perspective of a school remedial teacher from Switzerland.
This month we have the great pleasure of presenting you with a newsletter written by the four oldest children of the children's home. They share with you their experiences of the two-week trip to Switzerland, which Gerard, a member of the Foundation Board, gave them as a gift and made possible with the support of other people. An unforgettable and unique experience for the young women.
Our secondary school students excelled in their online classes despite the difficult conditions. Other children have amazed us with their talent. What all the children have in common are their daily tasks and their most important day of the year.
There was a lot going on in June. We finally got our own ludotheque and the children learned to build their own bird house. After a 15-month break, we welcomed our first visitors and went out for a pizza. The joy was immense!
In April, a cooking class was organised for our children and we were able to help the poorest with various social projects. Then Tatta and Tat came to visit us and we were able to sign an agreement with the Minister of Education of Santa Rosa de Copán.
After a year without any excursions, we went on a hike to the "Coca-Cola" sign above San Pedro Sula. In the meantime, the last container with relief goods has arrived and been distributed to the people in need. Furthermore, a newborn boy was brought to our childrens home.
For us as a children's home, education is an important aspect. Unfortunately, Covid-19 has further worsened the situation in the Honduran education sector. With one project, we succeeded in providing 1'531 children with computer lessons. Last but not least, our three high school graduates have started their further education.
